Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots, head coach Mike Tomlin announced Tuesday.
Roethlisberger underwent a cleanup procedure to repair a torn lateral meniscus Monday. The Steelers expressed confidence that the injury wouldn’t require a long-term absence, but it was always unlikely that he’d be back on the field so soon after the injury.
With the bye week coming up after the matchup against New England, Pittsburgh will hope that Roethlisberger has enough time to be ready to take on the Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 6. Fourth-year quarterback Landry Jones will step into the starting role until he’s cleared to make his return.
More to come.
