A fire on the runway of O’Hare International Airport in Chicago may prevent a very important person from reaching Game 3 of the World Series.
Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon told reporters pregame that the disruption has delayed his mother’s incoming flight, leaving her stuck in Philadelphia.
Prior to takeoff Friday afternoon, an American Airlines 767 caught fire on the runway, forcing all 161 passengers and nine crew members to evacuate. At least seven passengers and one flight attendant were injured, according to CNN.
Game 3 at Wrigley Field will be the first time the Cubs have hosted a World Series game since 1945. It marks the second time Maddon has reached the Fall Classic in his 13-year managerial career. He lost in five games to the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008 as skipper of the Tampa Bay Rays.
