The New England Patriots will host running back Rex Burkhead on a free-agent visit Monday, ESPN’s Field Yates reports.
Burkhead spent the last four years with the Cincinnati Bengals, but saw little action before last season. He carried the ball 74 times for 344 yards (4.6 yards per carry) and two touchdowns in 2016, and added 17 catches for 145 yards.
Bill Belichick is surely intrigued by Burkhead’s versatility. There’s a belief in some NFL circles that Burkhead could be used primarily as a slot receiver, rather than as a traditional tailback.
