The Tampa Bay Rays have big news to announce.
A press conference has been scheduled for Monday at 9 a.m. ET to make “a significant baseball-related announcement.”
It’s likely that the news will be the official announcement of the reported six-year, $53.5-million extension for outfielder Kevin Kiermaier.
News of the extension came earlier this week, though Kiermaier needed to first complete a physical before it could become official.
“I’m very grateful for the Rays to do this for me,” Kiermaier said before declining further comment until the deal is official.
Selected in the 31st round of the 2010 draft, Kiermaier has spent his entire four-year career in Tampa Bay. The 26-year-old two-time Gold Glove winner hit .246/.331/.410 with 12 home runs, 20 doubles, and 21 stolen bases in 105 games in 2016.
