The Oakland Raiders have signed free-agent linebacker Jelani Jenkins, the team announced Monday.
Jenkins, a fourth-round pick in the 2013 draft, adds depth and competition to a position that’s been a longstanding issue for the Raiders’ defense.
He flashed ability when healthy over four seasons with the Miami Dolphins, so Oakland will hope that he’s past his injury issues and can provide an upgrade to the starting lineup next fall.
The most productive year of Jenkins’ young career came back in 2014, where he tallied 110 tackles and 3.5 sacks while starting 14 of 15 appearances for a 12th ranked Dolphins defense.
Various ailments limited him to just seven starts and nine overall games this past season before he became an unrestricted free agent.
