Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson confirmed speculation linking recently released running back Jamaal Charles to the Eagles.

“He is a tremendous running back … We’ll grade him like we do every free agent,” Pederson told reporters at the scouting combine Wednesday, according to NJ.com’s Eliot Shorr-Parks.

Pederson coached Charles as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator from 2013-15, so he’s very familiar with the four-time Pro Bowler.

The Eagles don’t necessarily have a glaring need at running back, but it’s certainly a position where the team could stand to improve.

It remains to be seen what Charles has left in the tank after tearing his left ACL in 2011 and his right ACL in 2015, and missing almost all of the 2016 season because of lingering knee issues, but he should generate interest from several teams on the open market.
